Do you want to take your music to the next level!

A story about Kim Churchill (Bluesfest Busking Comp Winner 2009)

In 2009, Kim won the Byron Bay Bluesfest Busking Competition and has returned regularly to this festival’s main stage.

Kim has already accomplished impressive feats in his short time as a professional musician. He is recognised as much internationally as he is in his homeland, having performed headline shows, festivals and supports alike all over the planet. In recent years he has opened for Billy Bragg and Michael Franti, and performed at several notable festivals such as Montreal Jazz, Glastonbury, Telluride Blues, SXSW, Winnipeg Folk Festival, and the Byron Bay Blues Festival.

'I finished high school in 2008 down in Merimbula and each weekend found myself, and my van where I lived, getting further and further from home. I wound up away for a good month and during that time played in the Bluesfest Busking Comp. I can honestly say the experience was the catalyst for everything that has followed. It gave the opportunity to play Bluesfest and get to know the wonderful people that run it, who have over the years been beautifully supportive and pivotal in helping me take each new step of my career.  Bluesfest has been like a base for me and it's an enormous and very special part of not just my career but my life and journey. The Bluesfest Busking Comp started it all, and Anita and everyone that run it create magical moments for young artists like me every year. It's incredible!' Kim Churchill.

This competition is brought together independently from Bluesfest by a great bunch of dedicated volunteers and coordinated entirely by ACE!
