INTRODUCTION
From the Activity Director
Rectal cancer treatment has advanced significantly, making it possible for many patients to achieve a cure while preserving their rectum and avoiding life-changing radical surgery.
Despite these advances, many eligible patients across the Middle East and surrounding region still do not benefit from organ preservation. Treatment pathways are not always optimized to achieve a complete clinical response, and the adoption of the Watch & Wait approach is often limited by a lack of experience, multidisciplinary collaboration, and standardized surveillance protocols.
The Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi Rectal Cancer Organ Preservation Workshop has been created to bridge this gap. Designed specifically for colorectal surgeons, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, radiologists, and pathologists, this immersive multidisciplinary workshop brings together internationally recognized experts from each of these specialties to provide a comprehensive, team-based approach to rectal cancer organ preservation.
Faculty will share evidence-based strategies to optimize neoadjuvant treatment, accurately assess complete clinical response using endoscopy, MRI, pathology, and clinical examination, select appropriate patients for Watch & Wait, and conduct safe, structured surveillance.
Join us at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi to transform rectal cancer care across the region.
