Interventional radiology has been constantly evolving and precisely in the field of embolization with the continuous introduction of new materials. As the field continues to evolve, structured, hands-on training remains essential to developing confidence in embolization techniques. This requires a strong foundation in vascular anatomy, catheter and microcatheter selection, embolic-agent choice, procedural planning, and recognition of angiographic endpoints.
Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi’s workshop WIRE IR: Fundamentals of Embolization workshop offers an immersive introduction to the core principles of embolization. Designed for interventional radiologists, radiology fellows, and trainees, the programme combines expert-led lectures, focused case discussions, hands-on practice with a range of occlusive agents, and dedicated simulation sessions in uterine fibroid and prostatic artery embolization.
Faculty will present evidence-based guidance on selecting particle and liquid embolics, deploying coils and plugs, planning procedures, preventing complications, and delivering post-procedural care. Through practical training and multidisciplinary discussion, participants will strengthen the skills and confidence needed to perform embolization safely and effectively in clinical practice.

BY THE END OF THIS WORKSHOP, PARTICIPANTS WILL BE ABLE TO:
- Explain the fundamental principles, indications, and clinical applications of embolization, supported by current evidence and best practices.
- Select appropriate vascular access techniques, catheters, microcatheters, and guidewires for embolization procedures.
- Differentiate and select the appropriate embolic agent, including coils, plugs, or particles, based on the clinical scenario, and apply best practices for their safe preparation and use.
