INTRODUCTION
From the Activity Director
Interventional radiology has transformed the treatment of vascular and structural disease, offering patients minimally invasive alternatives that achieve outcomes once possible only through open surgery with shorter recovery, lower complication rates, and preserved organ function.
Despite these advances, many centers across the Middle East and surrounding region still face gaps in embolization training. Access to structured, hands-on experience with guidewire navigation, catheter selection, and embolic agents remains limited, and adoption of standardized techniques is often constrained by a lack of simulation-based training and multidisciplinary exposure to real world case scenarios.
The Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi WIRE IR: Basic Embolization Workshop has been created to bridge this gap. Designed specifically for interventional radiologists, radiology fellows and trainees, and vascular specialists, this immersive workshop combines expert led lectures, in depth case reviews, and hands-on simulation to build practical competency in embolization technique.
Faculty will share evidence-based approaches to particle and liquid embolic selection, coil and plug deployment, microcatheter navigation, and structured case management across GI bleed and trauma, UFE, and PAE indications reinforced through bench top and vascular model simulation.
Join us at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi to strengthen embolization practice and advance interventional radiology care across the region.
TARGET AUDIENCE
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
BY THE END OF THIS WORKSHOP, PARTICIPANTS WILL BE ABLE TO:
- Explain the fundamental principles, indications, and clinical applications of embolization, supported by current evidence and best practices.
- Select appropriate vascular access techniques, catheters, microcatheters, and guidewires for embolization procedures.
- Differentiate and select the appropriate embolic agent, including coils, plugs, or particles, based on the clinical scenario, and apply best practices for their safe preparation and use.
- Perform basic embolization techniques through hands-on simulation and case-based practice.
- Apply the principles and procedural considerations of Uterine Fibroid Embolization (UFE) and Prostatic Artery Embolization (PAE), integrating appropriate devices and techniques into procedural planning and clinical decision-making.
- Evaluate procedural considerations and complications related to embolization, comparing different approaches through case discussions and hands-on simulation.
