About the event

Regulation is a powerful catalyst for progress; it builds confidence among innovators, provides clarity for investors, and strengthens public trust. But in a world of rapid technological change, regulatory systems must evolve to keep pace, or risk slowing the very innovation they aim to support.  

That is why regulatory reform must be evidence driven. Policymakers and regulators need robust, real-world insight into how new technologies work, how markets behave, and where existing rules help (or hinder) innovation. Without those foundations, reforms risk missing the needs of innovators and the wider public. 

Innovate UK and partners across government and the public sector are investing in building this evidence base. This includes the creation of 11 Regulatory Science and Innovation Networks (RSINs) spanning a diverse range of high-growth potential sectors, and 7 healthcare-specific Centres of Excellence In Regulatory Science and Innovation (CERSI). With the first wave of pilot funding having concluded at the end of March, this Summit marks an important moment of reflection on what these centres have learned, what impact they have had, and how their work can shape the next phase of regulatory innovation as we move towards a new phase of support and development. 

This summit brings together policymakers, regulators, funders, network leaders and strategy and policy leads from across the regulatory community to take stock of progress to date, share practical insights about approaches that are working on the ground, and consider how regulatory science can better generate and translate evidence into smarter, more responsive regulation. The event will also highlight current government priorities on pro‑innovation regulatory reform, and examine how closer collaboration across the system can best contribute to the shared vision of an agile, adaptable and trusted system of regulation that supports cutting-edge innovation.
