Faculty of Public Health Medicine

Winter Scientific Meeting 2026

Join us in person or online for the annual Faculty of Public Health Medicine Winter Scientific Meeting in 2026.

The Faculty of Public Health Medicine Winter Scientific Meeting brings together public health professionals, researchers, and policymakers to share emerging evidence, showcase new research, and discuss the key issues shaping population health in Ireland.

This year’s programme will feature a keynote address from a distinguished invited speaker, alongside oral and poster presentations from abstract authors representing a broad range of public health research.

  • Professor Sir Michael McBride, Chief Medical Officer (CMO) for the Department of Health, will deliver the keynote address. Professor Sir Michael was knighted in Her Majesty’s 2021 Birthday Honours for services to public health in Northern Ireland and was awarded a Professorship in Public Health Practice from Queen’s University Belfast in 2021 for services to public health.

  • Professor Diarmuid O’Donovan, Director of National Health Improvement at the HSE, and Professor Mary Codd, Associate Professor of Epidemiology & Biostatistics at the School of Public Health, Physiotherapy and Sports Science in UCD, will present on a joint project with University College Dublin (UCD), funded by HSE Spark. Their presentation will highlight findings from the project, including significant gaps in the available data and how these compare with other countries.

The meeting will provide an opportunity to engage with leading research, share experiences, and strengthen collaboration across the public health community.
