Innovative Grinding and Processing Technologies for the Future of Mining
The mining and minerals industry is undergoing a fundamental transformation. Increasing demands for efficiency, resource utilisation, product quality, and sustainability require new technologies and a more integrated approach across the entire value chain. Hosted by Gebr. Pfeiffer, this seminar brings together industry experts to explore how advanced grinding technology, real-time ore sensing, mineralogy-based process design, and renewable energy solutions can contribute to the future of mineral processing and green iron production.
Gebr. Pfeiffer will open the seminar with an introduction of the Gebr. Pfeiffer Group and its MVR vertical roller mill technology for dry mineral processing applications. The presentation will explain the operating principle and key design features of the MVR mill, highlighting how the technology supports reliable, available, and energy-efficient operation. Different dry grinding flowsheets will demonstrate how MVR technology can be adapted to the specific requirements of the mining industry, including conventional grinding as well as de-sliming and selective grinding applications.
Building on the topic of efficient resource utilisation, NextOre will explore how real-time bulk sensing and sorting can enable mining operations to measure and classify material at production scale before valuable processing capacity is consumed. By continuously measuring grade and directing material into different processing pathways, mining companies can respond to ore variability rather than blending it away.
The Hawsons Iron Project will provide a practical example of how ore mineralogy and variability influence process design. The presentation will explain the fundamentals of the project’s planned process design and show how a detailed understanding of the ore body has shaped the selected approach. Particular attention will be given to ensuring consistent product quality and meeting defined product specifications despite variations in the feed material.
Finally, Progressive Green Solutions will introduce its Green Iron project and present the principles behind its plant design, logistics concept, technology selection, and green standards. The presentation will address both the engineering challenges and commercial realities associated with developing a world-scale green iron facility.
